The Agave nussaviorum is appreciated for the production of Mezcal in the region, commonly known as Maguey Tobalá is one of the four ethnotaxons included with this common name, it is a perennial and solitary plant. It has no stem and is characterized by its open rosettes that reach a height of 50 to 70 cm and a diameter of 60 to 80 cm. This plant is a sight to behold, with its unique shape and impressive size.

Each Maguey Tobalá plant has between 20 and 40 leaves, each 20 to 40 cm long and 14 to 20 cm wide at the base. The leaves are deltoid to broadly lanceolate, succulent, rigid, and can be flattened or concave. The beauty of these leaves lies in their rigidity and succulence, which give the plant a robust and resistant appearance.
